Saturday, September 6th-"What to Expect in the First Year of Teaching" 

Cook Hall, 4:00pm

Come hear five different perspectives on the first year of teaching. Discussions lead by Carrie Schrader, an ISU alum and current orchestra director of Deerfield Public Schools, and Angelia McLaughlin-Heil, current  ISU music graduate student and formal director of Edwardsville High School. First year reflections also taken from ISU alums Aryc Lane, Patricia Cleaton, and Jeff Ohmart. 

 

Friday, October 3rd-"Sid King Bass Techniques"

Cook Hall 305, TBA

Does the idea of teaching bass terrify you? Well ISU ASTA has you covered! Come hear the wonderful Sid King from the University of Louisville discuss bass teaching techniques. 

 

Monday, October 6th- "Conducting 101" 

Cook Hall, 7:00pm 

Join us with Maestro Glenn Block of the ISU Symphony Orchestra as he takes us through the basicis of conducting!  

 

Friday, November 1st- “Tune­or­Treat” ­

 Cook Hall, 2:00pm

Trick-or-treating in the “Haunted Cook Hall Castle”! Travel from studio to studio and learn about the different types of instruments. There will be a special appearance by the ISU String Project Sinfonia class too! Come enjoy an afternoon of music, treats, and a few tricks!

 

Monday, November 3rd- "Classroom Management" 

Cook Hall, 7:00pm 

Wise words from the amazing Dr. Allison Meyer! Come hear about classroom management techniques and helpful tips on having the most organized classroom possible! 

 

Monday, November 10th/Tuesday November 11th-"Sandra Dackow"

Throughout ISU campus 

Sandra Dackow the amazing composer, conductor, educator, and award winning arranger will be ISU’s campus! On Monday, November 10th she will rehearse the ISU String Project classes from 5:30pm-6:45pm, with discussion to follow. The classes and discussions will take place in Cook Hall 305 and 308. On Tuesday, November 11th she will lead a conducting master class from 11:00am-1:00pm in Cook Hall 212, and will also rehearse the ISU Symphony Orchestra in the ISU Center for Performing Arts at 4pm.
